Lost in animation

Animations

Had a couple of days working from home this week, which is something I rarely do. I much prefer working in a busy office. But it was a fun project and I increased my knowledge of CSS animations.

The whole Flash v CSS animations battle has transfixed many and perplexed many more. I’ve dabbled with Flash and in the last 18 months have gained greater confidence in Adobe Edge. After a less than impressive launch, Adobe has invested heavily in their flagship animation package. I think it’s slowly paying off. But I’m increasingly enjoying using CSS animations as an alternative to JavaScript-based animation. I’ve used CSS transitions for sometime now and providing that are used in an understated and subtle manner, they can be very effective.

But with the development of HTML5, you can perform animations which were not possible in previous versions. The animations are simple and far from complex. But for ad banners, CSS animations fulfill your needs. The performance was good and browser support increasingly impressive (even though the Flash devotees will cry foul…).
